About the Kimberton Fire Company

Kimberton Fire Company, Chester County PA station 61, is located on Route 113 in Kimberton, PA and is a combination company made up of mainly volunteer firefighters and augmented by 2 full time, weekday career (paid) firefighters.

Chester County is approximately 762 square miles and is in Southeastern Pennsylvania. The county was one of the three original counties in Pennsylvania and was created by William Penn in 1682; there are now 67 counties in PA. Chester is comprised of 57 townships, 15 boroughs and 1 city and has a population of 433,501 people as of the year 2000 Census.

Kimberton Fire Company's first due area is made up of 5 townships in whole or in part and covers approximately 32 square miles. The townships are Charlestown, East Pikeland, East Vincent, West Pikeland, and West Vincent Townships.  The average ISO rating for our first due area is 5/9.

The company was organized in January 1929 and incorporated by May of that year. Our first piece of fire apparatus was a 1917 Brockway "Combination Chemical and Hose Car" purchased from Phoenixville Hook and Ladder Company Number 1, Chester County station 65.

Kimberton's first new fire apparatus was a Hale pumper purchased in May 1936. Unfortunately the first fire call this piece responded to was a fire in Kimberton's Firehouse. The firehouse was a complete loss, but the pumper was saved and was actually used to help extinguish the blaze. That year the members elected to sponsor a fair to raise much-needed funds. The Kimberton Fair is still held the last full week of July every year.

Today's fire company utilizes technological advances not available to the founders of our Company. Such as Self Contained Breathing Apparatus, hydraulic rescue tools, Thermal Imaging Cameras and modern fire resistant turn out gear that helps to protect firefighters from deadly heat and flames.

As much as things have changed, the fire service remains the same. Anytime, day or night, rain or shine- no matter who needs us we'll be there, providing Professional Services from Volunteer Forces.
