Fire Explorer Program
What is the Explorer Program
- Exploring is part of a learning for life career education
program for young men and women who are 14 (and completed 8th grade)
through 20. (In Kimberton the explorer may apply for senior membership to the FD at
age 18)
- Exploring’s purpose is to provide experiences to help young
people mature and become responsible and caring adults. Explorers are ready to
explore the meaning of interdependence in their personal relationships.
- Exploring is based on a unique and dynamic relationship
between youth and the organizations in their community, in this case the Fire
service. By matching the person and the organization the result is a program of
activities that helps the youth pursue their special interest, grow and develop.
Who runs the Explorer Program:
- At the Kimberton
Fire Company, the explorer program is run by a joint effort of the senior
firefighters and the line officers of the company.
- Goals & Objectives:
- To tap a resource
of youth in the community interested in becoming involved in the fire service and
helping their neighbors.
- To train the
members in the techniques of firefighting and EMS through in-station activities and
participation in County and State training academies.
How to become an Explorer:
- Complete an application available at the fire station. The facility is staffed
by career personnel from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday and after hours
by volunteer staff.
- Visit the fire station just about any Wednesday evening from 6:00 – 8:00 PM or
call and make an appointment with one of the counselors at 610-935-1388.
- The Program works within the boundaries established by the Boy Scouts of
America, Child Labor Laws, and the Kimberton Fire Dept.
