HISTORIC HOME BURNS IN CHESTER SPRINGS

Monday January 22, 2007

AT 0124 Hours Chester County communications alerted Kimberton Fire (61 & 72) and Engine 47-4 (Lionville Fire) for a house fire on Art School Road in West Pikeland Twp. Weather conditions were poor with freezing rain & snow making the response to the far end of the district very slow. Upon arrival at 0138 Hours crews found a small 2-story home with heavy fire coming from the 2nd floor and roof. Deputy 61 (Bliss) assumed command and requested tankers from: Lionville Fire (47), Ludwigs Corner (73), East Whiteland Fire (05) a RIT assignment from Phoenix #1 (65) and a MICU from Phoenixville (67). Crews went into service with CAF hand lines and quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire. The fire was placed under control & units worked til 0500 hours overhauling the building. FM Holt (FM-100) assisted on scene & determined the fire to be a result of a spark from the fireplace. Losses were set at $100,000. Ridge Fire (62) & Valley Forge (68) provided coverage at Station 61.
