3 – BAY GARAGE BURNS DURING SNOW STORM

Sunday February 25, 2007

At 1535 hours communications alerted Kimberton Fire (61/72), and Ladder 65 for a garage fire on Pine Drive in Charlestown Twp. Chief Fields was the first to arrive and found a car on fire inside a 3 Bay detached garage. After unsuccessfully trying to get the car out of the garage & hold the fire in check with an extinguisher, the fire eventually overtook the entire garage. Road conditions were extremely poor due to snow/ice and a steep driveway complicated things even more. Once apparatus got into position, fire crews knocked the fire down but not before it gutted both cars inside & the contents. Assisting on scene were tankers from Ridge Fire (62) and Valley Forge (68). The Homeowner was transported by West End EMS to Phoenixville Hospital with smoke inhalation. The cause was accidental & units cleared by 1730 hrs.
